This Day of Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a season called Lent which Last 40 days. These 40 days represent the 40 days that Jesus fasted. Its a time of deep thought and reflection with time of action from our selves in how we fast and abstain from food and doing things given up daily habits. Mostly a time to work on and better self spiritually.
